This book is a help book for children who have a mother with cancer. This book provides the guideline for open and honest discussions about a parents illness. It provides honest information about treatments, and how sick those treatments may make a mother feel. And it encourages the parent and child to express their feelings about this. The book also encourages the parent and child to participate in some creative activities to express their emotions. I really liked the section where they put together a story together. It allows for a child and parent to remain connected in a difficult time for both of them.
This book is a great book for any child who has a parent that is going through cancer treatments. But when I think about it, it could be useful for adults who are facing these situations too. Let's face it, when it comes to our relationships with our parents we all revert to children when things become extremely stressful. So many of the activities would assist adult children too.
I really liked the illustrations, they are simple. And the page with information about treatments was extremely well done.
