Red And White Tulip

I was out and about today, and I saw a bunch of tulips. Someone tried to convince me the other day that the tulips were no longer in bloom, but I thought to myself, that doesn't seem right. And so here is the proof that they are still blooming.

Special moments of the week

Every week is special. Every has some moments that are just humorous. And then there are moments that are special moments. They are moments that have made us laugh, think, or just relax. Here are some of the special moments of this past week.

Seeing the sunshine after a thunderstorm. It was so bright against the sky. And it just reminded me that sunny skies are always just around the corner. You just have to wait it out sometimes.

The cashier at the store. He maybe shared a little too much information with shoppers, but he was entertaining. Over the course of a few minutes, I found out a lot about him. His mom was a truck driver. So he moved around a lot. He was from New York, Virginia, Florida, and pretty much ever where else someone named. He also informed me that Crystal Lite was his favorite drink. And he referred to his pen as a him. He had personality. I don't know if any of it was true, but it made for a much more interesting trip through the grocery line.

Binge watching The Mighty Boosh season 2. It is just as funny as the first season. I love the show! If you like quirky shows, then check this show out.

The fuzzy feeling when the cat decides to groom my eyelids. I think he means as a loving gesture. But it feels pretty strange. In a way good, and in a way bad.

Within A Captain's Power

Pirates are always romantic. And I have been given the chance to review the historical romance Within a Captain's Power. Keep reading to learn about the book, and what I think about it.

WITHIN A CAPTAIN'S POWER
by Lisa Olech
PUB DATE: 4/4/2017
Genre: Historical Romance

Never underestimate the power of a pirate . . .

Captain James Steele is duty bound to capture the privateer Scarlet Night and bring her rebellious crew to England to hang. Then he will leave his majesty’s service, make an upstanding marriage, and join the landed gentry. But the winds of fate are blowing the straitlaced commander utterly off course.

Once aboard, James comes face to face with a pirate boy who is in reality fierce, desperate—and gorgeous—Samantha Christian, on the run from a sadistic Virginia plantation owner. With her identity unbound, the good captain dutifully takes her under his personal command, whereupon decorum goes out the porthole. But while his heart is lost to Samantha by the time they reach England, her noose still awaits. Now James’s sense of duty will be severely tested. As for Samantha, she has a plan, and a duty, of her own . . .

What I Think

This is a fun historical romance. I love stories about pirates, and I really like that the heroine Samantha is the pirate. It is a great twist. It shows that the author knows how to develop a unique storyline. Samantha is strong, and she knows what she wants out of life. And that is not to be in a marriage where she is not treated with respect. I like that about her. And the author does a good job of showing the attitude of the pirate. Freedom above all else. So if you enjoy historical romances. Or if you just dream about being a pirate check out this book.

Lisa A. Olech is an artist/writer living in her dream house nestled among the lakes in New England. She loves getting lost in a steamy book, finding the perfect pair of sexy shoes, and hearing the laughter of her men. Being an estrogen island in a sea of testosterone makes her queen. She believes in ghosts, silver linings, the power of a man in a tuxedo, and happy endings.

Thrifty Finds Week 16

I don't know about you, but my vacation last week was great. I was able to do a lot of thrifting. I always find it fun to go thrifting in different towns. I don't know if it is just a change of pace, but it seems like even just a few hours away the items you find can be completely different. It's fun! Here are some of the finds for the week.

I found a really great little picture frame, and some gift bags. Both were perfect for a gift I needed to give. I loved the turquoise and satin fabric on that frame. Hopefully, my friend enjoys it as much as I like it. And those butterflies, are the perfect gift for a friend who is a butterfly freak. And of course, you can never have enough party dresses.

And of course there was a super cool little jacket in khaki, that I absolutely had to have.

And then there was a big score. A fabulously soft plaid shirt, and a cute little dress. At the top there is a super cute Hello Kitty hat. And I found some clothes with the tags on it. But there is my absolute favorite find of the week. The embroidered pillow case. I wish I had more talents in the needlework area.
I really love the flowers in the needlework.

So how has your thrifting gone recently?

I Wish Bobby Kennedy Would Have Won

I was sitting at the doctor's office the other day, and a gentlemen told me something strange out of the blue. Sometimes people strike up conversations that just surprise you. You wonder why are they telling me this. The other day was one of the occasions.

You see this gentleman told me I wish Bobby Kennedy would have won the election. I have to admit the very first thought I had was, does this man suffer from Alzheimer's? I mean Bobby was a candidate for president in the last century. Then he said that things would be different if Bobby was elected.
He told me that the world would be a different place if he had won the election. I thought to myself you are probably right in a way.

I wonder how he would have handled the issues revolving around Vietnam. Would it have become such a mess or would he have figured out a way to deal with it more diplomatically? I thought it still would be a mess. Maybe some of it would have gone a little different, maybe that awful picture of the helicopter on the embassy wouldn't exist. But it still would have ended badly. It just would have been how badly.

I wonder if race relationships would be different. He mentioned the speech that Bobby gave in Indianapolis when Martin Luther King Jr. was killed. It brought some calm to a horrible event. So I thought to myself maybe this would be a little different. Maybe just maybe there wouldn't have been a Rodney King incident. I think that might be.

So we'll never know if Bobby would have won that election, but maybe the world would be a little different.

That Reminds Me

Last year I took a short class in paper cutting. It was fun, and I thought to myself I need to do this more often. All you need is some paper, and a good pair of scissors. And there are a few really cool things you can do with it. I actually pretty much forgot about the class. And that I went down to the library the other day. I saw these great examples of paper cutting, and I decided that I need to practice so I can cut paper like this. My photos don't do justice to the artwork, but it gives you an idea of what you can do with it.

I think the kimono is my favorite, but it's a tough call. It's such a simple art, that turns out wonderful pieces. Let me know which one you like best.

You're The Star

Home sweet home! I love going away on vacation, but it is so great to return home. It was great to visit my mother last week. She is doing so much better, but it was nice to get back home and sleep in my own bed. This week's focus is home on the Star Hop.

Give Me Some Water

Gardening season has begun. Depending on where you live you may be starting seedlings, or you might just be planting things in the ground. It doesn't matter where you live, every gardener knows that water is important to their garden. But you don't always have to turn on the faucet to get that water. It may already be in your house.

I know some of you are saying this is another one of those crazy bits of info from a wacky environmental person. Yep, the shoe fits, so I'm wearing it.

But really there is a super easy way for you to get some extra fluid to water your plants that you normally would have poured right down the drain. At least I have in the past, but that is going to stop. I'm talking about the excess water from boiling eggs, and potatoes. Or for that matter any other vegetable.

Believe it or not, that water that you boiled your items in contains some extra nutrients that a great for plants. Water from boiled eggs contains a little extra bit of calcium. And plants like tomatoes and tomatillos absolutely love calcium. It's like a free fertilizer.

All you have to do is let the water from the items cool to room temperature. Make sure that it is cooled off, boiled water will kill the plants. But if you have sidewalk with some plants growing in the cracks. You could pour that water there, and you will kill off those weeds. Take the cooled water to your garden. And pour it on the plants. It is just that simple.

So don't let that water go to waste. Recycle it. And what other gardening tips do all of you have?

Adopt The Planet

Adopt the Planet is this year's Earth Day project by NASA. And it is a fun one. The goal of the project is to get the entire planet adopted by today April 22nd.

If you go to the site you will see a page where you can adopt a piece of land. Keep in mind you don't really own the land. It's just a spot they pick out. The land I adopted was somewhere in Brazil or Bolivia. It doesn't really give you the name, but it does give you the coordinates. So when I have more time, I'll see exactly where it is.

The page gives you information about the topography, in the area. It's pretty cool. And you can see satellite images of the areas. It takes some exploration of the site to understand what you are looking at. And you will also need to do some research outside of their site to be really knowledgeable about the maps. But the project gave me the opportunity to look at another area of the world and think about what is going on in that area.

So it's fun. And since Earth Day is today, this is a great way for you to find out a little bit more about how the world.

To Pinterest Or Not To Pinterest

I have to admit that I currently don't check pinterest very often. There was a time when I went to the site on a daily basis. I looked at all of the wonderful pictures. I looked at the items I wanted to make.

And then one day, I noticed something. My feed had several of the same pictures. I would go to look up something. And it would have at least three of the same pictures. Where was the creativity I loved? I decreased the time I was on the site.

Low and behold, I found that instead of looking at all of these things I wanted to make. I had actually started making my own items more often.

I found that I didn't feel as though my pictures were inferior to everyone else's. I found that I was actually taking more photos. I was looking at them more critically. I was improving some of the shots I was taking. I wasn't just thinking about what other people were doing. I was doing it myself.

This doesn't mean that I never go to pinterest any longer. It just means that when I go, I do it just for a short burst. There is something I'm looking for. It's not eating all of my time. And you know what, I really enjoy what I see a lot more. Even though I do seem to get many of the same photos in my feed.

Three Ways To Turn Your Day Around

Some days you get out of bed, and stub your toe. Then you trip over something. And then you can't find your favorite flavor of oatmeal because someone else ate it. Things just don't start out the way you want them to. And you have a choice to make let things continue the way they are. Or change the way it is going. If you are smart you will change the way things are going. The change you have to make is the attitude you have towards those little mishaps. Here are three ways to turn that day around.

Take a Look At The Good

Just because a few little things went wrong in the morning, it doesn't mean your entire day has to be bad. There are loads of good things that happened to you even though there have been lots of bad ones. For instance you were able to get out of bed that morning. Go to a hospital or local nursing home. You will find lots of people who would love to be able to jump out of bed. They just can't do it because they don't have the strength to do it.

Find Alternatives

Even though your favorite oatmeal is gone, you still have to eat breakfast. Try something different than you would normally eat. It might become your new favorite.

Laugh

There are just some things in life that you have to laugh at. You would have figured that so many little things could happen in so short a time. Run a mental image of yourself as you respond to these little things. You will probably find them quite funny.

Try these things and let me know if they give you a pick me up on those mornings that things just seem to be going the wrong way.

The Meeting Of The Geeks

Yes, last Saturday was Indiana Comic Con in Indianapolis, Indiana. One of my friends noticed this, and said we should go. How could I turn down this gathering. It was so close to home.
So vacation slips were filled out, and surprisingly, I got the time off I desired. The day approached and we agreed on a meeting time. We would depart at 8am on Saturday morning. Mornings are difficult so we started later than we planned. But soon the three geeks arrived in Indianapolis.
Tickets were purchased, and the festivities began. There were costumes to see, items to be purchased. And of course comics to be read.
It's not every day you see Bender out walking around, so if you see him, you must get a photo.
There items I wanted, but felt that $225.00 that day was more than I could afford.
There were items I knew were not everyday finds. But alas I didn't really need them.
But overall, it was a day that reminded me that fitting into mainstream society is highly overrated.

Star Hop

Another Monday has arrived. I hope everyone had a Happy Easter! I spent time with my mom, well at least later in the evening I did. It's so hard for me to get up and going earlier in the day. It's just always weird to be awake when I am usually sleeping. Any other third shifters out there that understand what I'm saying? But we now have something to look forward to on Mondays the Star Blog Hop. This week we are focusing in on family.

There Is a Difference

Can I have some teriyaki sauce please? This is a Chinese restaurant not a Japanese restaurant. This was the conversation I heard the other day while I was waiting in line to pick up my carry out order. The guy who asked for the teriyaki sauce was doing this for his girlfriend. And you could hear her asking him across the room. Do you get some teriyaki? He kept trying to explain to her that they gave them so soy sauce, and that teriyaki sauce was served at Japanese restaurants. As they were carrying their order out the door, I heard the woman state. I don't understand why they didn't have teriyaki sauce.

It reminded me that there are so many times when we don't really understand the differences between people. Things all appear the same, but in reality there really is a difference.

Happy Easter

Happy Moments Of The Week

I saw someone wearing a pair of socks just like these the other day. I really liked the socks they were fun. And just ask anyone who knows me, I enjoy footwear of any kind. So these really caught my attention. I just didn't expect to see them on a guy.
The feeling you get when vacation Friday finally rolls around. The last day of the work week before your vacation is often the longest of the year. I had to force myself not to look at the clock every few minutes, but when it is time to clock out. You just want to jump up and down don't you? It's like I am free from all of this for a week.

Your first day at the park on a nice spring day. I went to the park this week, and it felt wonderful. The daffodils and tulips were blooming. And the park was actually crowded. It was fun to see all of those people at the park. And I always smile when I see individuals playing with a Frisbee. It's just a care free toy isn't it?

Realizing that you have met a goal. I completed some tasks that I wanted completed badly. It just felt good to be able to cross them off that list. I said to myself I did it!

So what has made your week good?
