Feline Christmas Musings

Guest Blogger Captain
I hope all of my fellow felines had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was truly fantabulous. I gorged on a feast of salmon and tuna. I heard the can opener in the kitchen Christmas morning, so as usual I ran in there to see what was going on. I knew that scent immediately! It was fish, two different kinds of fish to be exact, tuna and salmon. It was heavenly. I instantly began to ask for some. And low and behold, there was an entire plate of each provided to me. It was mine, all mine! My roommates thought that some of it was for them, but I had to remind them who exactly ran this home. That Bobaloo can be so pushy at times. I ate and ate and ate some more. And then when I could eat no more. I went off for a Christmas nap, and I had pleasant dreams of tuna and salmon all coming to me on a plate.

Weird Snow Facts I Learned Today

Weird Snow Facts I Learned Today

We had our second major snowfall today. Around an inch of snow fell. It wasn’t a major storm, but enough to cause life to slow down a little. But I learned a couple of things today.

The first thing is always read your snow removal contract if you’re a business owner. I learned this after I heard my supervisor say to the snow removal company “What do you mean you only plow after it snows an inch?” I automatically began to pray that I wasn’t given a shovel, and asked to begin shoveling the parking lot. It’s a big parking lot. Soon the supervisor was looking for a shovel. She went outside, and after about five minutes returned muttering about snow removal policies.

The second thing I learned is snow cleats have a left and right. I learned this as I saw someone come inside a store. She looked at her shoes, and said, “These things don’t feel right today. I wonder if these things have a left and right?” She pulled off the snow cleat, and looked at them. Sure enough they did have a right and left, and she had them on the wrong feet.

Your Band Is a Virus

I was recently contacted by James Moore to review his book Your Band Is a Virus Expanded Edition. So here are my thoughts on his book.

Your Band Is A Virus - Expanded Edition (#2)

Do you have a band? Do you want your band to be more than a hobby for you? Then you should follow the advice of James Moore in Your Band is a Virus Expanded Edition. But this book doesn’t only apply to bands. It is a useful guide for any individual who wishes to promote their artwork in a creative and effective way.

The book emphasizes that in order for an artist to become successful, the artist must view his artwork as a business. And it provides some valuable ways to market your band. It encourages musicians to be professionals from the get go, which is something in my opinion many bands overlook. It also provides some websites to visit, and place information about your band. The book also includes ideas on ways bands can promote themselves free of charge. It also includes ideas on contests, websites, and how to contact the media, record companies, and radio stations.

The author is careful to point out that making it as a musician is hard work, and musicians must prepare themselves for all of this work. He encourages the reader to use the book as a workbook for success. He also encourages individuals to use their creative spirit, and not limit themselves to the ideas in the book.

I liked this book because the author provided clear examples of ways that his recommendations can work. He encourages individuals to work hard to make their dream come true, and he encourages them not to give up on their dream. I also liked how portions of the book can apply to any business, especially any creative business. In my opinion, this book is a must read for any musicians who wish to have music as their livelihood.

Yes, I continue to dream of catnip. But one of my other great passions in life is grooming. I am a handsome boy, and I always need to look my best. So I groom, and I groom. I also enjoy grooming others. I see how they need to look so I just lend a helping hand. I groom my roommates, and when I feel that my pet human requires grooming I assist her. But she doesn’t seem to like it. I am trying to show her how much I care for her, and I want to assure that she looks beautiful by grooming her. But when I do she says stop that, and then she pushes me away. I just don’t understand humans.

That's Exactly What I've Been Looking For

Doesn’t it feel great when you go out to do your Christmas shopping, and find exactly what you’ve been looking for? Even better when that happens at the first store you go to.  That happened to me today. I can’t tell you what I was buying or the person I was shopping for, but I can say it was a fantastic feeling to just  be able to say that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.

Powerball

I wish I could tell you that I am the Powerball this week, but I can’t. Okay, I didn’t even buy a ticket. But I still dream about what I would do with all of that money if I would have won. And I came up with a short list.

1.     Call into work rich! Wouldn’t it just be great to tell an employer, no you don’t get it I’m rich and I don’t have to work?

2.     Talk to a financial advisor. Yeah, I would probably need someone to tell me, no you don’t really have as much money as you think you do right now.

3.     Go to Ulta, and buy one of everything in the store. It would just be fine to have one of every make up and shampoo available to try. Then I could really say I’ve tried them all.

4.     Take a trip to someplace most people don’t go to. Yeah, everybody has gone to Vegas and New York, but how many people go to Iceland? Wouldn’t that be a conversation piece?

5.     And finally, randomly and anonymously mail out hundred dollar bills. Wouldn’t it be fun to imagine how people react to receiving that in the mail?

Winter Sweaters

Most anyone who know me, know one thing. I don’t like winter. I don’t like being cold. I don’t like scraping the windows on my car. And I really don’t like the bleak sunless days. But each year I always search for things I do like about winter. So far this year I have come up with two things. One thing is the way the sunshine’s on the snow. And the other is winter sweaters. So here’s the comfy outfit with a winter sweater for the day.

Dear Santa

Dear Santa

It was great to see you out for a stroll on Harrison Street yesterday afternoon. I’m sure you’re quite busy this time of year, and a little fresh air gives you your second wind for the day. I was pretty surprised to see you though. At first I just saw a bright red outfit with white trim passing by, and I had to rubberneck in order to be sure that it was you. Sure enough there was also a red hat, white beard, and you were carrying sleigh bells. And I even said out loud “There’s Santa!”

This leads to the reason I’m writing to you. I was driving my car when I saw you. And well when I rubbernecked, I didn’t notice that SUV that pulled out in front of me. And well let’s just say I got to meet the driver, who wasn’t too happy about the present I just delivered. His face got as red as that outfit you were wearing. And his words were pretty colorful too! But the check from the insurance company should calm him down.

But does this incident move me from the nice list to naughty list for the year? And if I am on the naughty list now, could you drop me an email or text me? I have a couple of weeks to work really hard and get back on the nice list. And if I don’t hear from you I’ll just assume that I’m on the nice list.

Always Believing,

Heidi

Egg and Lemon Soup

I love going to Greek restraunts, and the main reason is Avgolemono Soupa (egg and lemon soup). A lot of people turn their noses up to it, but I love it. It’s the perfect mix of lemon and chicken to me. The zesty lemon taste wakes up my taste buds. So I made egg and lemon soup today. Here’s the recipe, so you can enjoy this wonderful soup too.

6 cups chicken stock, salt, ½ cup rice or orzo, 1 teaspoon flour, ¼ cup flour, 3 eggs, and the juice of 2 lemons

Bring the stock to a boil and add salt and rice. Boil for 18 minutes. Remove 3 cups of broth, cover the rest of the rice and keep warm. Make a paste of the water and flour, add to the broth. Beat the eggs thoroughly, and then alternate adding eggs and lemon juice to the broth. Once this is finished add the mixture to the rice. Stir thoroughly and then serve.

I finally have another chance to write again. So much has been happening. You see the birds just keep flocking toward the bushes outside the window. I am a huntress so this is very exciting. I sit on my perch all in an attack stance. If I could just get out there and grab one. I can just imagine how it would taste. Oh, how I would love to have one of them for a snack. But there is a hindrance to this snack, a piece of glass. Is there some way that I can remove this hindrance? I have tried pressing against it and it doesn’t budge. How am I to get one of those tasty morsels with this thing in my way?

Christmas Survival Tips

The holiday season is upon us. And it is a wonderful time of year. There is a lot happening, and oh so many fun things to do. But there are moments during the season that I wonder will I live through this season. So here are a couple of things I try to do when the holidays don’t feel so joyful.

1.       The holidays are never perfect so just enjoy what comes. You can’t buy the perfect gift, throw the perfect party, or make the perfect food. In fact, the mistakes are often what makes the holidays so memorable. The perfect example is my friend Billy, who made rum balls every year for Christmas. Everyone talks about the year his rum balls weren’t really balls, but turned out as a gooey mess. Due to his adding too much rum.

2.       The holidays are for sharing. Put thought into the gifts you give. But don’t get too upset if someone doesn’t go crazy for the gift you give. On the flip side always be gracious when you receive a gift. Some people aren’t creative gift givers, and some people honestly have so much going on that another it is just nice of them to remember you. Always be appreciative of what you receive. Remember how Penny gives Sheldon a napkin autographed by Leonard Nimoy. And it was the greatest gift Sheldon ever received. (Yeah, it’s a TV show, but the principle is true.)

3.       Do something hokey. Going to the Christmas lights around town is hokey, but it’s also beautiful. We all remember the silly Christmas traditions from our childhood. Start a few of your own; they will probably be what your family members remember about the holidays.

4.       Expensive does not mean great. The best gift I ever received was a little bear from a client I worked with. She bought it at the Dollar Store, but it was just really great to receive something from someone who had almost nothing in life. I don’t have many of the big gifts I’ve received at the holidays, but I still have that bear.

5.       And finally, do something for others. We all get caught up in our own busy little worlds. Don’t forget that there are others around you that may not have as much as you. Donate to your local charities or other worthwhile causes. I remember a friend of mine who wasn’t sure how she was going to get presents for her children at Christmas. One of the local companies received her name as their Christmas family. She received a van load of food and presents from that company. They provided her with clothing, food, and toys. The food actually lasted three months. To this day she claims that those presents helped her get on her feet so she wasn’t worrying about bills all the time.

Have You Ever Worked Around Here at Christmas?

I was at work today, and one of my co-workers asked me “have you ever worked around here at Christmas before?” I told him no. And his reply was, “It is AWFUL!” “There is more work to be done around here than can ever be done.”

So I guess I have been warned that the next month of my life will be extremely busy, and it will be extremely stressful.

That Girl Started Her Own Country

Zaydee is a jet-setter. At the beginning of the story Zaydee is set to meet with her broker, who has been stealing her money. During the meeting Zaydee demands the money back. Soon Zaydee is met by two FBI agents that arrest her. She refuses to reveal her identity, and she is booked as Princess Jane Doe aka Pippi Longstocking.

In Sweden Steven Larson is investigating the Bilderberg Group. Zaydee sends Larson a message stating that she loves him, and that the information that was provided to him about the Bilderberg Group is false. She informs him that if he continues to investigate the Bilderberg Group his life will be put in danger. Zaydee also informs Larson that he should sell of his shares of his magazine immediately, and go to London. In London she has purchased a new magazine for Larson, and she has provided him with a staff of hackers.

This book is full of action. It caught my attention from the beginning. And Zaydee is not your average prisoner. She is able to handle herself in the prison system, and outsmart the federal prosecutor. If you enjoyed The Millenium Series by Stieg Larsen, you will definitely enjoy this book written by Holy Ghost Writer. If you enjoy thrillers you should read this book. It's available through amazon.com.

It is great to have our pet human home. I am very sensitive so it hurt me a great deal when she ran away. But the problem is she isn’t home enough.  Recently, she has left home in middle of the night to go to what she calls work. She always tells me that she is going out to earn money so I can have food and catnip. I can adjust to this. Catnip and food are good. And it’s great to hear that the reason she is leaving the house is for me. I am the center of her universe.  But this coming home and getting something to eat and then leaving again has to change. When she returns home she is supposed to spend a great deal of time petting me, and talking to me. She is not supposed to run right back out the door again for several hours. Does anyone else’s pet human do this? And how can I change this? I want to spend quality time with my pet human.

Whatcha Been Readin?

Eternal Hunger (The Complete Novella Series)
I received a copy of Eternal Hunger (The Complete Novella Series) by Francene Carroll. The book starts out with Lucia at her bachelorette party. She is out with her friends at a club celebrating her last few days as a single woman, when a mysterious handsome stranger asks her to dance. And the stranger bites her on the neck. Lucia doesn’t realize how this event will affect her life. But soon she finds herself selling her soul to a vampire named Drake L’amour in exchange for immortality. Soon after accepts her new life as a vampire, Lucia realizes Drake left out a few details about vampires as he enticed Lucia to give up her ordinary life as a mortal. But she finds the most important thing he forgot to tell her was the emptiness of the vampire’s life.

As she makes her way through the vampire world, she finds that it is not so easy to give up all of her humanity. She abhors the hunts that many vampires enjoy, and she desperately wants to regain her mortal soul. She finds out about an evil plot by the Count, the vampire leader, to take over the human world and return it to the way it was before human’s advanced technologically. She also learns that there is a group of rebel vampires that are fighting this plot. And she decides she must be part of this group.

And during this journey she finds herself falling in love with Drake L’amour, the vampire who is responsible for this journey she is on.

I really liked this book because it brings to life the fact that life is all about the choices we make. No choice is without some sort of consequences. And that even though we may have made a bad choice, it doesn’t mean that bad choice has to rule our future behavior. So if you’re looking for a quick romantic read, check out Eternal Hunger. I liked it!

Things That Were Really Great Today

Today had a few awesome moments. You it's the little moments that are really the great ones in a day.
1. I got a really cool package in the mail. Real mail always makes me happy.
2. Someone helped me with a project without being asked. I always feel good when people lend me a hand.
3. The sun melted the frost off of my car windows! Yay, no scraping.
4. The cat fell off of the armrest of the couch. It's a little mean to laugh at him, but it was funny. I had to go reassure him it was okay, and that he just doesn't realize he's a big boy and that he doesn't fit just everywhere.

Awesome items for the day

Your Always Thinking of Me

Yesterday was full of its challenges, but there was one great moment. Someone reached into their Happy Meal, and gave me their toy from the meal. All I could think to tell him was, "that's what I like about you, your always thinking of me."

Procrastinator, Not Me!

Well then again, I am a little bit of a procrastinator. OK, not just a little bit of a procrastinator, I’m a big procrastinator. But when I notice I’m putting things off a little too much I do a couple of things to get myself motivated.

First, I make a list of things I really would like to accomplish that day. It helps me to clearly define what I want to get finished. As the list shrinks, I feel like I have accomplished something that day. Be careful not to make to large of a list or you will feel like you didn’t accomplish much if you don’t get everything crossed off.

Second, if it’s a large task, break into smaller tasks. Sometimes, that’s not possible, but a lot of times it is. You’ll be able to tell yourself that you completed this much of the task. And the more you see completed the easier it is to finish.

Third, sometimes we really can put things off for another day. If you’re having a bad day, don’t worry about the huge projects; just do what you need to do to get through that day.
So now we all need pen and paper to make out our to do lists.

Things I Love About The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory is the best show on television right now. Well in my opinion it is. I’m sure there are those who would argue that there are other programs that are much more worthy of the title best show on television, but they are wrong. And here are four reasons why I love The Big Bang Theory.

1.     They are geeks! Yes, for once in television history it is cool to like Star Wars, Star Trek, and comic books.

2.     They actually do things! A lot of people just sit around saying they want to do this or that, but they actually go out and do things. They go to comic book shows. They go to Renaissance Festivals, they play games, and the characters actually have active social lives.

3.   There are females who like science. Growing up I always felt discouraged from my interests in math and science. More at school than at home. The females on this show actually have an interest in science, and they are successful in their chosen field.

The Runaway

I have to admit this last week has been very stressful. My pet human ran away. It was awful. My roommates and I were crushed. What had we done? We are fantastic pet owners. We provide our pet human with quality loving attention, and how does she reward our love and affection? She runs away.  I was so worried and I was lonely! I missed my beloved pet. She normally fills our food bowl several times a day, but the runaway left us with someone who came once a day to fill our bowl. After a few days I began to wonder if this human would end up being our new pet.

But then the door opened and our pet human returned home. I was so relieved to see her, and I let her know. I also informed her that this behavior was not acceptable. I asked her where she had been, and I demanded to know what she was thinking leaving us here alone.

I do have to admit that I am worried that our pet human will run away again. How do all of you deal with your runaway pet humans? And how can I avoid this problem in the future?

Three Important Travel Tips

I just got home from a short trip to visit family in Florida. It was a nice time. But I realized there are a couple of things that you need to remember when you fly in the year 2012.

1.      It costs extra to take luggage on your trip. So if you’re visiting family or friends, don’t check your baggage. Either mail your clothes which should cost around $10.00 one way. Compare that to a $30.00 charge one way to check baggage. Or go to a local thrift store and pick up some cheap clothes. If you mail your clothes make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get the package to its destination.

2.      In most cases airlines do not provide snacks on flights. When I was seated on the airplane, an elderly gentleman asked the stewardess if there would be anything to eat on the flight. She replied to him, “Honey, it’s been awhile since you’ve flown anywhere isn’t it?” In order to keep ticket prices down airlines have chopped out anything that costs them extra. So eat before you fly, unless you want to pay at least $5.00 for many snacks.

3.      Long term parking is awesome, if you can remember where you parked when you get back home. Yes, I spent a half hour walking around long term parking this morning trying to find my car. So if you park in long term parking, write down what section you parked in.
Here are some travel picks that I love today.

Goth Paper Dolls

A goth paper doll, I bet that caught alot of people's attention didn't it? This was my little project for the day. I wish I could say that I created the doll and her clothes, but alas I don't have that level of skill yet.

These are the original dolls that are EK Duncan created. Aren't they awesome? And it was so much fun to decide how I was going to put the doll together.

These are some of the clothing items that she has posted to go along with the paper dolls. If you follow the link you see the entire set of clothes, and download them. She is offering them free of charge, but they are not meant for resale. http://www.ekduncan.com/ Wouldn't you just love to have a jacket like the one for the paper dolls?

Hello Mr. Lizard

Yesterday I sat down on a park bench I just wanted to have a little time to myself. And I didn’t want to hear anyone ask me if I voted. I’m so very glad when the election is over with, I thought to myself. There was a tree next to the bench. I looked over and saw a small lizard on the tree. I said Hello, Mr. Lizard. And I was very glad he did not answer back. It would have meant that the endless yapping about the election finally drove me over the edge. But Mr. Lizard simply looked at me with his round lizard eyes. Mr. Lizard and I sat together for a few minutes in silence.  Then I departed from the bench as Mr. Lizard sat in silence.

Walking in the November Rain

I really love going for a walk in the rain. I’m not talking about the rain that stings when it hits your skin, but I’m talking about that slow steady rain. The kind of rain the makes you feel a little damp and cools your skin off. I love finding a puddle of water, and watching raindrops hit the surface of the puddle. It makes those really cool circles of water, and occasionally a bubble will form on top of the water. Anyway, I got to go for a walk in the rain this morning so I had a great start to my day. And this is some of what I saw.

Here are some things I think are really cool today.

Whatcha Been Reading?

I don't know about the people reading this, but I love to read. And I have pretty diverse reading habits. Sometimes I like serious books that I really need to think about, and other times I just like something fun and easy to read. Last week I read Liquid Lies by Lois Lavrisa. I was in the mood for something fun to read, and this book didn't let me down.

Not only was the book fun to read, it caught my attention right away. It starts out with two eighteen year old best friends doing something reckless. They get into a semi with a trucker they meet at a truck stop. As soon as I read this, I thought that sounds like something I might have done when I was eighteen. (Yes, I was once young and dumb!) The decision to get into the truck turns out to be an extremely bad one, and the girls end up making a pact to keep the incident a secret.  The girls don''t see each other for another four years after the night at the truck stop.

When the girls see each other again, the story begins to take all sorts of twists and turns. Many of them are predictable, but I could still see myself in the main character CiCi. She manages to get herself into alot of trouble accidentally, and she has to try and figure out how to get herself out of trouble. (I can't remember how many times I have done something like that.) But she manages to muddle through the mystery, and the book has a happy ending. So if you just want a fun mystery to read, check out Lois Lavrisa's Liquid Lies. It's available through amazon.com.

So here are a couple of things I really think are cool today.

Vintage Leather Boat Shoes, Mason Shoe Co, Chippewa Falls WI

My pet human doesn’t seem to totally grasp my need to climb. This is not simply something I enjoy doing, I must do it. I am small so must get up high in order to see everything around me. And it’s just fun to sit on top of the curtain rods. I do admit that my pet human did provide me with a little tower to climb on, which I use most of the time. But I just can’t resist those curtains. Isn’t that the reason they are there? My pet human tells people I’m not very well behaved, and this is true. Girls just want to have fun. The only thing that really deters me from fun is the spray bottle. I don’t see the purpose in it. I’m just going to climb the curtains when she is gone. Spraying me with water only stops me from climbing when my pet human is home. But then again humans don’t always catch on to those things too quickly.

Chris Mann’s Album Roads

Chris Mann has a new album that was released October 30th. The album’s title is Roads. The album includes tracks named Roads, Always On My Mind, Ave Maria, and my favorite Vida La Vida. I’m a big fan of Coldplay so I was really glad to hear a cover of this song on the album. It also features a duet with Christine Aguilera called The Blower’s Daughter. You can listen to the song by clicking on the youtube video below.

That's So Disappointing!

I had a few disappointments during my day today.

1. The people from Publisher's Clearing House didn't show up at my house with a big check so that I could call into work rich! I was really looking forward to a visit from them.

2. A brownie didn't move into my house and complete all those cleaning tasks that I keep putting off. Where is the world of magic when you so desperately want it?

3. My cats didn't massage my feet today when I got home from work. I don't see why they can't do that kneading thing they do on my feet instead of on my stomach.

On the flip side I had a couple of great moments.

1. I got off work in the morning at a decent time. Hurray! I was able to go home and get a nap.

2. I had raspberries with my lunch. They taste wonderful.

3. And I get to go out to dinner with some really awesome friends this evening.

I guess the great moments make up for the disappointments. Those things probably won't happen anyway, but I can always hope can't I?

And here are some really cool Beatles items I want today.
